Since we integrated pediatricians into the on-call doctor few years ago Unfortunately, this subject of medical examinations now also falls into our area of responsibility. However, the prior knowledge for this is rather inadequate in our specialty, and certainly also in other disciplines such as ophthalmology, ENT medicine and orthopedics. First of all, we do not know the deceased in their medical history, one is often overwhelmed with the long lists of drugs, the forensic medical understanding is also not available and with three to five funeral examinations per year there is not really any exercise effect. In addition, in the home environment the conditions for an inquest are simply not ideal; Starting with inadequate lighting to partially non-existent physical prerequisites for coping with undressing the corpse and changing position. It is therefore very clear to me that there are many sources of error in the cause of death statistics and that overlooked unnatural deaths occur. In principle, second official medical / forensic examination of the corpses, for example in the undertaker's institute, could do good job.
