Wiesbaden / Eschborn - Due to lack of nursing staff, fewer hospital beds are available in Hesse than are statistically recorded. According to the Hessian Hospital Society, there are always occasional deregistrations from beds.
"Temporary closings do not appear in the statistics and thus obscure the statistics," said Managing Director Steffen Gramminger.
According to the state of Hesse, the number of such cases increased from 28,000 in 2018 to 30,000 in 2019. The Ministry of Health sees the short-term cancellation of Beds to this extent are unproblematic.
For decades, the number of hospitals and beds in Hesse has been falling. According to current figures from the State Statistical Office, there were 137 clinics in 2017, 152 there were still in 2000.
During the same period, the number of beds fell from just under 37,000 to below 33,000. At the same time, more and more people are being treated in Hesse: The number of cases rose from 1.17 million to 1.34 million in 17 years.
