Especially in times when the healthcare system has to fight for qualified personnel, the quality of treatment and the professional perspective are also the“ soft ”factors such as value orientation and corporate culture and high quality of work is increasingly important for companies in order to be attractive to doctors and nurses. Aspects such as credibility, respect, the fairness of management and the team spirit of an institution are also increasingly coming to the fore. It was precisely these topics that were the central evaluation criteria in the competition “Germany's best employers in the health sector” organized by the “Great Place to Work Institute Germany” in January 2011. 80 hospitals as well as nursing and care facilities took part in order to have their quality as employers assessed.
What is special about the competition “Germany's best employer in the healthcare sector” is that the employees of the healthcare companies get two thirds of the result participate in an employee survey. This took place on the central workplace topics of leadership, cooperation and professional development. The Heiligenfeld clinics in Bad Kissingen received positive feedback on the questions of over 90 percent. In addition to the survey, the HR work measures and programs used were checked by cultural audit by the Great Place to Work Institute, which ultimately led the Heiligenfeld clinics to first place in the hospital category.
The Heiligenfeld Clinics are group of clinics whose treatment focuses on psychological and psychosomatic illnesses. In addition to three psychosomatic clinics, rehabilitation clinic for orthopedics and internal medicine and medical care center in Bad Kissingen, the health company also includes psychosomatic family clinic in Waldmünchen as well as an academy and management consultancy. "The basis of our company is value-oriented corporate philosophy that includes not only economic values but also humanistic, social, ecological and spiritual values", says Dr. med. Joachim Galuska, medical director and co-founder of the clinics.

We employees are involved in the development of the corporate culture. This creates space in which we can bring our own values, which ultimately means that the values are also borne and lived by the employees, ”explains Schutzmeier. This was done last year, for example, through an “essence process” as part of quality management. For weeks, all employees spent one and half hours on Tuesdays in group work, thinking about the essence of the company and the values. It emerged that values such as community, humanity, mindfulness and presence, development, meaning and gratitude, beauty and aesthetics, ecological orientation and holism shape the corporate culture.
“The work in Heiligenfeld is characterized by holistic approach to the patients in therapy and the employees in everyday life. In addition to complex health management, there are numerous additional offers for doctors such as supervision, ten days of training leave, flexible working time models, leave chains and individual training. We are also allowed to use some of the offers at the Heiligenfeld Academy free of charge in order to provide further training, ”explains Schutzmeier.
However, the current developments in the health system do not completely ignore the “best employer in the health sector”, as Galuska emphasizes: “Of course, we too are caught between economic efficiency and value orientation. But we have made the experience that both can work together if you are authentic and include the employees in the development of the corporate culture. ”
