Halle - A memorial stone on the graveyard cemetery in Halle commemorates 74 children now buried, who had been preserved for decades in the anatomy of the University Hospital Halle.
On the stone is quote from Antoine de Saint- Exupéry ("The Little Prince") to read. "Big people never understand anything for themselves, and it is too exhausting for children to have to explain everything to them over and over again," they say.
Below is the explanation that the buried children, like thousands of others, were brought into the first half of the 20th century for teaching and research purposes in accordance with the law of the time. “They urge us to treat the dead with dignity.”
The director of the institute Heike Kielstein had ensured that the bodies brought in between 1920 and 1940 have now been examined and finally cremated and buried. Relatives could no longer be found.
