Wiesbaden - More than two thirds of all people in need of care in Germany are cared for at home. This was announced today in Wiesbaden. According to this, in December 2011 1.76 million people in need of care, 70 percent of the 2.5 million people in need of care in Germany, were cared for at home.
Of these, 1.18 million received care allowance only. As rule, they were cared for by relatives alone. Another 576,000 people in need of care also lived in private households, but were cared for together with or entirely by outpatient care services. In nursing homes, 30 percent of the 743,000 people in need of care received full inpatient care.

At 65 percent, the majority of those in need of care were female. 83 percent of those in need of care were 65 years of age or older. At 36 percent, more than third were over 85 years old.
