Montréal - The heat wave in eastern Canada has increased the death toll to 70. In the city of Montréal alone, 34 people died, said spokesman for the Québec Ministry of Health yesterday.
In Québec and in the neighboring province of Ontario Extreme temperatures have prevailed since the beginning of July, although there have been no heat deaths in Ontario so far. According to the Canadian Weather Service, the temperatures in the region were sometimes over 34 degrees.
In 2010, around 100 people were killed in heat wave in the Montréal area.
