Gütersloh - 42 percent of Germans know that the emergency number 112 is valid throughout Europe. This was reported by the on the occasion of the European Emergency Call on February 11th (“11.2”). The stroke aid refers to representative survey of EU citizens.
The EU-wide emergency number 112 was introduced in 2008. It works in all EU member states from the fixed network and the mobile network. At first, the Germans lagged behind their European neighbors in knowing the emergency number. Now they are on average across the EU: 41 percent of EU citizens know that they can also dial 112 abroad.
According to the survey, the European emergency call centers are trying to be particularly quick. 21 out of 28 states report that their centers answer emergency calls in less than ten seconds. However, no evaluation is available for Germany.
Stroke Help has been pointing out for years that the stroke is medical emergency under the motto “Every minute counts”. It is the third most common cause of death in Germany and the most common reason for disabilities in adulthood.
