Göppingen - The number of patients with multi-resistant intestinal germs has increased slightly again in the Alb Fils clinics. In the Helfenstein Clinic in Geislingen, 40 patients are colonized by the germ and are isolated from other patients, as spokeswoman said.
In mid-February, 33 patients were still affected. Currently, however, no patient is infected - according to the clinic, the vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) only make people sick if the immune system is particularly weak.
since For two and half years the Alb Fils Clinics have been fighting against VRE. Since 2016, the germ has been found in more than 1,900 patients, 48 of whom developed it. VRE-infected patients died in May 2017 and January 2018. In the most recent case, it is still being investigated whether the VRE infection was again the cause of death. According to clinic spokeswoman, there is no result yet.
In mid-February, the city of Göppingen, in cooperation with the health department, ordered VRE-colonized patients to be accommodated separately. Since then, VRE has caused urinary tract infection in one patient. The clinic spokeswoman said that it had healed again.
