Berlin - 37 women and men are significantly involved in setting the course for health policy in Germany - the members of the health committee of the German Bundestag. I: Your professional career, your thematic focus and your assessment of how you can achieve results and consensus in the committee.
It is true that the résumés and views of the committee members are heterogeneous. On one point, however, many agree that it was good decision to join the committee. "It is very exciting committee with wide range of topics in which you can actually make difference," says Stuttgart lawyer Karin Maag (CDU), for example. The topics ranged from the health industry to ethical issues - wider range than many other committees could offer.
While many MPs in the Health Committee at their own request sit, some were asked by their party to work - because they come from certain federal state or belong to certain professional group. According to their own statements, no one has regretted it.
“At first I was skeptical,” says today's chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group, Hilde Mattheis, who has been member of the committee since 2002. "But today I am very happy to be working on the Health Committee, as it is an area that everyone in Germany is connected to and in which you can make difference."
