Berlin - The local authorities reported 362 new SARS-CoV-2 infections to the Robert Koch Institute () within one day. Since the beginning of the crisis, more than 179,300 people in Germany have been proven to have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, as the RKI reported today (data status May 27th, midnight).
Most of them are already back recovered. The number of new infections remains at low level, the infection rate is dominated by isolated smaller outbreaks.
The city Regensburg tears the critical limit for new infections because of an outbreak in an anchor center for refugees. A large number of cases had been found there during serial examination. According to the State Office for Public Health, the Regensburg residents do not have to fear any consequences, the infection process is local and can be clearly delimited.
According to the RKI database, the Bavarian district is currently the only one that meets the threshold of 50 new cases per 100,000 Residents within seven days. Due to delays in reporting, the actual situation may already be different.
In Mainz, 35 residents of refugee accommodation tested positive for SARS-Cov-2, as the Mainz-Bingen district administration announced. The refugee accommodation has been in quarantine since May 19. In addition to Rhineland-Palatinate, the number of confirmed cases in Brandenburg has risen slightly more than before.
So far, according to the RKI, 8,349 people known to have been infected with the virus have died, which means that the number of reported deaths has increased by 47 within 24 hours. According to RKI estimates, 162,800 people survived the infection, which is around 800 more than the day before.
According to the latest information from the RKI yesterday, the reproductive number (R value) was 0.70 (data status May 26, 12 midnight; Monday 0.83). This means that ten infected people infect seven other people on average. The R-value depicts the infection rate about week and half beforehand.
Since mid-May, the RKI has also given 7-day R. It relates to longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value (data as of May 26, 00:00 a.m.) was 0.78. It shows the infection process 8 to 16 days ago.
