From March 13 to March 15, 2020 in Bad Homburg v. d. About 150 doctors from all over Germany expected.
Venue of the tournament, which is being organized for the first time by œMedChess “Association for the Promotion of Chess and Culture in Medicinea œ in cooperation with the Badischer Schachbund, is the Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, Louisenstrasse 58. MedChess has chosen from the group of participants in the medical tournaments on the initiative of Prof. Dr. med. Peter Krauseneck (Bamberg) and Dr. med. Hans-Joachim Hofstetter (Bad Kissingen) founded with the aim of leading the traditional chess championship for doctors into good future.
The chess weekend begins on Friday, March 13th, at 6 pm with the registration of the participants in the foyer of the Kur- und Kongresszentrum. There, Bad Homburg's Lord Mayor Alexander Hetjes invites you to reception with regional buffet and drinks at 7 pm, during which the participants are also welcomed. Afterwards, interested doctors can either take part in an upstream blitz tournament or in simultaneous chess against the doctor and international chess grandmaster Dr. med. Helmut Pfleger or against the European champion in rapid chess (2018), WGM Elisabeth Pähtz.
The actual championship starts on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the draw of the pairings for the first round. There are six games on this day. On Sunday, March 15th, another three games will follow - each with time limit of 30 minutes per player. The award ceremony will take place around 1.30 p.m. The tournament is played according to the Swiss system, in which players of roughly equal strength meet each other. There are material prizes and (for the best placed) cash prizes.
