The this year's tournament will take place in Bad Neuenahr. About 150 doctors from all over Germany are expected.
The venue for the traditional tournament, which is organized by the Deutsches Ärzteblatt together with the German Chess Federation under the patronage of the President of the German Medical Association, is the Kurhaus in Bad Neuenahr. The chess weekend begins on Friday, April 22nd, at 7 p.m. in the foyer of the Kurhaus with welcome, small drink and the registration of the participants. Interested doctors can then either take part in an upstream blitz tournament or simultaneous chess event against the doctor and international chess grandmaster Dr. med. Helmut Pfleger or against the member of the women's national team of the German Chess Federation Filiz Osmanodja. Dr. Pfleger offers so-called watch handicap. Therefore the number of participants is limited to twelve players.
The actual championship starts on Saturday at 9 o'clock with the draw of the pairings for the first round. There are six games on this day. On Sunday, April 24th, another three games will follow - each with time limit of 30 minutes per player. The award ceremony will take place around 1:30 p.m. The tournament is played according to the Swiss system, in which players of roughly equal strength meet each other.
