good 20 years ago, on January 1st, 1999 the Psychotherapists Act came into force. An occasion that the Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists (BPtK) has just celebrated with ceremony (see page 100 “Initial spark for integration”). The BPtK existed 20 years ago, just like the state chambers of psychotherapists, where Lower Saxony started the founding. Psychological psychotherapists (PP) and child and adolescent psychotherapists (KJP) did not have any direct billing options with the health insurance companies, but were involved in the reimbursement of costs. They were only allowed to treat patients on the advice of doctor. They had no say in self-administration. There is no trace of integration or equal togetherness.
This specialist journal did not exist 20 years ago either - it is, so to speak, by-product of the Psychotherapists Act, result of the willingness of the then chief editor of German Ärzteblattes (DÄ), Norbert Jachertz, "to stand up for the integration of doctors and psychologists and to counteract drifting apart of the professional groups". So he wrote on the occasion of the founding of PP in January 2002. With the concept of its own monthly magazine on 48 pages for the target group of the PP and KJP, the editorial team fulfilled the obligation of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), the new professional group in contract medical care To make announcements accessible (see page 140). The DÄ traditionally publishes the announcements of its editors - the Federal Medical Association and the KBV - as well as of institutions named by the editors, such as the Federal Joint Committee. On the other hand, in addition to the announcements, the new target group should receive relevant articles from the DÄ , psychotherapeutic specialist articles and readers' forum. The latter in particular seemed immensely important at the time, because the feeling of disadvantage in the medical contract system was very pronounced. The editors wanted to counter this feeling at the time by founding their own edition. Before that, the “Edition P”, 16-page weekly compilation of announcements and articles from the DÄ , which appeared from May 2000 to December 2001, caused some displeasure: they wanted psychotherapists with one of these "Narrow-gauge edition" and drive the wedge between them and the doctors even deeper, were the allegations.

The new magazine PP was well received: every issue now consists of two thirds of articles produced in-house and one third of articles that have also appeared in the DÄ. It was so well received that for long time many medical psychotherapists, as regular recipients of the DÄ , wanted to receive additional PP. That only changed with the expansion of the editorial team's digital offer: the entire PP edition is available free of charge in full text at www.. We believe that PP contributed to the integration.
