Friedrich Barbarossa and his successors generously expanded the Salian royal castle, which had already existed in the middle of the eleventh century. The double chapel and the imperial living and state rooms in the palace with mostly preserved paneling are evidence of this time. The deep well, which was the most important source of water at the time of the siege, is probably as old as the imperial castle itself. The Sinwell Tower from the second half of the 13th century, visible from afar for strangers approaching the city, was after his original destination of the keep of the castle.

Baths, doctors, hospitals - medical history tour in the old town
The health system in medieval Nuremberg was comparatively well organized. With the Heilig-Geist-Spital the basis for the inpatient care of old and sick people was laid as early as 1330.
Find out in an entertaining tour:
why so many sick people would rather go to the Bader than an academically trained doctor; in what way an executioner in the second profession could be quite beneficial; why some of the Nuremberg pharmacists were unscrupulous. These points and much more are answered on our tour on the traces of the Nuremberg medical system and spans the spectrum from the Middle Ages to the present.

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 , 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Services: Guided tour through the old town
Participants: 10 to 20 people
Costs: 12.50 euros per person
Meeting point: Schöner Brunnen, Hauptmarkt 17, 90403 Nürnberg
Male, single, young, looking. . . - Albrecht Dürer at young age
Albrecht Dürer, the greatest son of Nuremberg, coined the period around 1500 with his name as "the Dürer period". Patricians, princes, and emperors let him portray them. On his first trip to Italy he invented the landscape watercolor "as if in passing". The young artist became famous throughout Europe for his woodcuts, copperplate engravings and prints. As typical Nuremberg man, he understood their skillful marketing, highlighted by his artistically designed “AD”, the first “copyright” ever.
Follow the early traces of what is probably the most innovative artist of the Renaissance.
