Wiesbaden - In 2016, 11,077 midwives and obstetricians worked in German hospitals. That was announced today on the occasion of the International Midwives Day. This will be celebrated worldwide on Thursday next week.
Among them were 9,301 full-time workers, 9,297 of whom were midwives and four were obstetricians. The remaining 1,776 were staff members. The proportion of employees differed greatly between the federal states. In Hamburg it was 2.5 percent, while in Bavarian clinics it was 51.1 percent.
